Vicente Fox just hit Trump exactly where it hurts in early morning tweet

- Februari 25, 2018

A day after President Trump and Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto had a heated phone call over Trump’s refusal to publicly acknowledge our neighbor’s long-standing position that they will not pay for a border wall, Peña Nieto’s predecessor as President of Mexico, Vicente Fox taunted Trump on the U.S. President’s favored medium, Twitter.

Fox was amplifying the tensions from the call that got so heated that it resulted in the cancellation of Peña Nieto’s planned upcoming initial visit to the White House in March.

Mexican officials described Trump as having “lost his temper” during the call according to The Washington Post. White House sources described Trump’s behavior in less unflattering terms, saying that he was “frustrated and exasperated” because he believes that it is unreasonable for Peña Nieto to expect him to back off his crowd-pleasing campaign promise of forcing Mexico to pay for the wall.

Former President Fox, although a member of the National Action Party, the opposition to Peña Nieto’s Institutional Revolutionary Party, formed a unified Mexican front against President Trump’s insulting position.

The Mexican Presidents share a view that Trump’s demand could be compared to telling your family that they’re getting a new car, but your neighbor is going to pay for it. When the neighbor insists that you’re crazy if you think they’re paying for your car, you double down and get angry at the neighbor for embarrassing you in front of your family for pointing out your lies.

That’s the situation that Trump has placed Mexican-American diplomatic relations into, and neither Vicente Fox or President Peña Nieto has any desire to allow Trump’s foolish lies to the American people to continue to fester. He can scream down the phone line all he wants, but he can’t force a sovereign nation to bend to his demented will, no matter how well it plays to his racist base.
