A Congresswoman just demanded an investigation into Trump and Stormy Daniels

- Maret 26, 2018

No matter how hard he might try, the President won’t be able to tweet and sue his way of the Stormy Daniels sex scandal.

The determination of Daniels to get revenge on the man who we now know threatened her very life and who unfairly pressured her into having sex with him is gripping the incredibly low attention spans of the American 24-hour news media as Daniels and her lawyer’s successful public relations offensive reaches the highest levels of our government.

Congresswoman Betty McCollum, representing the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party in Minnesota’s 4th District, has officially called on the House Oversight Committee to investigate the 2016 payment of $130,000 in hush money that Trump lawyer Michael Cohen made to Stormy Daniels right before the election – a payment that almost certainly was a major violation of campaign finance laws.

Add your name to millions demanding Congress take action on the President’s crimes. IMPEACH TRUMP & PENCE!

The Federal Elections Commission is ostensibly in charge of enforcing campaign finance laws, but with its board of three Republicans and three Democrats, it’s perpetually locked in partisan gridlock as the conservative half refuses to approve any but the most pedestrian of enforcement actions.

With that in mind, it’s difficult to predict any kind of meaningful legal result from the investigation, but nonetheless, it’s still an important step from McCollum. Trump and his lackeys must be called to answer for every misdeed they perpetrate, regardless of whether or not all of the accusations stick.

There is no way to be sure how public knowledge Trump’s extramarital affair with Stormy Daniels would have shaped the election, but it’s a near certainty it would have hurt his poll numbers. The voters had a right to this information, and Trump sent his attack dog lawyer to ensure that we were denied it.

Even if this new investigation finds that the hush money wasn’t criminal in nature, it was certainly immoral. It can be easy during the Trump era to lose sight of the fact that politicians should be held to a certain standard, but if we ignore incidents like this we not only normalize evil behavior, we enshrine and encourage it.
