The Austin bomber’s identity was just revealed

- Maret 21, 2018

The serial bomber who been terrorizing Austin, Texas for the past month has been finally identified. CNN reports that authorities have identified Mark Anthony Conditt, age 24, white, Christian, as the murderer.

Conditt blew himself inside his car as investigators and a SWAT team were closing in on his location early this morning. One SWAT member was injured in the blast.

Conditt was identified when he was caught on camera delivering packages to a FedEx, where one of them later exploded and the other failed to detonate. Authorities then tracked his vehicle and located it at a hotel in Round Rock, just 20 miles outside of Austin.

Investigators used his Google search history to obtain a warrant and find out where Conditt lived. There, they ended up discovering what they called a “treasure trove” of information.

That said, police aren’t positive that this horrific saga is quite over yet.

“We don’t know where this suspect has spent his last 24 hours, and therefore we still need to remain vigilant to ensure that no other packages or devices have been left throughout the community,” said local Police Chief Brian Manley.

While his Conditt’s motives are still unknown, it was previously hypothesized that there was a racist animus behind the attacks, since most of the victims of the bombings were minorities. Two white victims were injured by a tripwire explosive, which is to say that they weren’t targeted specifically.

Conditt appears to have been a right-wing ideologue though. The Daily Beast reports that old blog posts by him rant against gay marriage, railing against abortion, and advocating for the death penalty, all of which are Republican stances. With those facts in mind, the possibility that the attacks were racially motivated can’t be ruled out just yet.

The explosive at the FedEx facility went off yesterday. Luckily, nobody was wounded when it exploded while traveling on a conveyer belt.  Another went off Sunday night at 8:30 PM local time when two bicyclists triggered a tripwire.

They both suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.  The manner in which the bombing was carried out showed a deviation from the previous three blasts, all of which were carried out by package bombs left at people’s homes.

The bicyclists were white men in their twenties. The previous bombings took the lives of Stephen House, 39, and Draylen Mason, 17. Both were black and attended the same church, which raised the possibility that the bomber was specifically targeting minorities. Mason’s mother was also hurt in the attack, and an elderly Hispanic woman suffered serious injuries from another bomb.

Hopefully, authorities will wrap up their investigation quickly and release the motive for the bombings. The American people deserve to know why this monster chose to attack them so viciously.
