Trump’s attorney just called for FBI Director to be fired as purge intensifies

- Maret 19, 2018

After denying that he was looking to add to his legal team and attacking the New York Times as “fake news” for reporting that he actually was, President Trump proved his own tweet was a blatant lie when he announced the addition of Joseph E. diGenova to his team of defense attorneys.

DiGenova has been a vocal proponent of the “deep state” conspiracy theory, appearing frequently on Fox News to propagate the idea that President Trump is being framed by a group of nefarious rogue intelligence and FBI agents who supported his opponent Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election.

In fact, in an appearance just this morning on Fox Host Laura Ingraham’s radio show, diGenova had this to say about the Trump-appointed FBI Director Christopher Wray:

“Christopher Wray ought to be ashamed of himself. He is an embarrassment to everybody at the FBI, and I think he should resign. … He doesn’t want to be associated with the firing of McCabe. Can you believe this?”

That the leaders of this supposed “deep state” ring of conspirators are all registered Republicans seems to matter little to diGenova and his Fox friends. Nor does the idea that dedicated civil servants might owe more loyalty to the institutions they represent than to the temporary occupant of the Oval Office ever cross their minds.

Trump’s new attorney attacked FBI Director Wray and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, another Trump appointee, mind you, for continuing to maintain the belief in “this phony notion that DOJ and the FBI are independent of the executive branch and the president of the United States. It is an insidious concept. They work for the president. He can fire them. He can tell them what to do.”

That a lawyer for the president is attacking the independence of our nation’s top law enforcement agencies shows how far down the road towards totalitarianism the United States has slipped.

If anyone should think that the FBI was biased in anyway during the election, it should be Hillary Clinton, since it was James Comey’s announcement that the FBI was reopening the investigation into the phony “scandal” over her email server, while failing to disclose the already on-going FBI investigation into Russia’s efforts to aid the Trump campaign that threw the election directly into the Republican candidates hands.

It’s a measure of Trump’s character that — after reaping the benefit of the FBI’s heavy thumb on the electoral scales — he turned on the very people who got him into the Oval Office to begin with, inexplicably accusing them of a conspiratorial vendetta against him.

It was diGenova’s constant reinforcement of what Trump already believed in his appearances on Fox News that helped him land the spot on the president’s defense squad, now he’ll have to convince a real judge of his aluminum foil hat theories in court.

Let’s hope that he’s charging the president a pretty penny for his services since, given the ludicrousness of the conspiracies he’s touting, it is money being flushed right down the toilet.
